"Documentary film about the largest Buddhist ritual Kalachakra to promote
peace and tolerance, held by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Bodh Gaya,
India and Graz, Austria in 2002. Including exclusive interviews with the
Dalai Lama, access to secret rituals as well as footage of a pilgrimage to
the Holy Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Wheel of Time means Kalachakra in Sanskrit. The Kalachakra-initiation
comprises a series of ten days in which teachings are given, and a
sand-mandala is made by monks with great precision and concentration.
The last three days consist of an initiation, enabling true practicioners
to
practice the daily Kalachakra-sadhana, which helps them to develop qualities
of peace and tolerance. Thus one becomes more capable to benefit the well
being of everything which exists.
At the very end of the ten days the sand-mandala representing a kind
of inner landscape of everything (from the whole Universe to every living
being) is destroyed and the sand is thrown into the flowing water
of a
nearby river, symbolising the impermanent quality of everything.[...]
