Featured photograph/poems from "Images of the Natural Year":

*EVERY LEAF A POEM*

This week, nine new translations from the
Dutch:

OCTOBER

Tender and young, as if it were spring
but lighter yet, not burdened with new fruit,
with thin mist between the yellow leaves,
quietly the time of fall begins.

I feel alone, that I love
like a child, something young, something old,
end or beginning? Something so known
and so undone of all conflict
not as an end of life,
but as the spring of death.

The rarefied crowns, the naked trunks,
and this surrounded by silence and mist.

M. Vasalis (1909-1998) (tr. Cliff Crego)

Hike there.

CHANGE AND OUR FUTURE
*

This is a talk given by Dr. Lonnie Thompson in December of 2007 at
the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union. Dr. Thompson
is a senior research scientist at the Byrd Polar Center at Ohio State University.

This is an address which deserves serious and sustained attention by all
those passionately concerned about Climate Chaos, and especially those
with an eye to the quickly disappearing alpine ice fields of the Earth.

Don't miss the new talk posted there of Dr. Dan Fagre, leading
Research Ecologist and Global Research Coordinator,
USGS Northern Rocky Mountain Science:
